Our Petite Sirah is bold and uncompromising. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry and black plum intertwine with masculine notes of new leather, cedar wood and smoked pipe tobacco, all wrapped in a dusting of espresso. On the palate, this full-bodied wine delivers layers of ripe blackberry, anise and spicy clove, supported by firm, mouth-coating tannins. The finish lingers with intensity, promising both enjoyment and excellent aging potential.
Appearance: Deep, dense colour rich dark purple / inky hues.
Aroma: Blackberry, blueberry, boysenberry; also notes of cocoa, mocha, new leather, cedar, smoked pipe tobacco, espresso.
Palate: Full-bodied and bold. Layers of ripe dark fruit (blackberry, blueberry), some anise and spicy clove. Strong tannins that are mouth-coating. Finish lingers with intensity.
Serving Temperature: Around 16-18 C, cool?room temperature, not too warm so alcohol doesn t dominate.
Decanting: Yes, advisable. Because of firm tannins and bold structure, decanting for 30-60 minutes helps to open it up, soften tannins, allow fruit & secondary aromas to emerge.
Cellaring: Has good aging potential. Drinkability begins now (especially with decanting), but will improve over a few years. Likely best peak in 3-7 years from vintage (i.e. around 2025-2029) though can hold beyond if cellared well.
This versatile wine pairs well with a variety of foods, such as smoked lamb shoulder with rosemary or braised short ribs with blackberry barbecue sauce.
