Four XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors and the latest algorithm keep the large F2 focus group under precise control. Reliable focus tracking and instant response are essential in professional situations such as weddings or sports events where missing even one frame can be disastrous. This lens is fully compatible with the 120fps burst capability of the a9 III4, and tracking continues smoothly even while zooming.

Designed for refined, expressive movie production
Focus breathing is effectively reduced for smooth movie imagery with minimal angle-of-view instability. Rack focus and zoom effects can be used with F2 depth of field to create natural transitions that guide the viewer's eye. Critical focus for high frame rate 4K 120p/FHD 240p5 recording is easy. The XD linear motors and a new aperture unit are quiet in operation, and a body breathing compensation6 is supported.
